Phishing/Spear Phishing: A deceptive email attack aimed at getting credentials or sensitive data. Spear Phishing is targeted specifically at a person or group (like all CISD staff).
Ransomware: A type of malware that locks down district files or systems until a "ransom" is paid.
Data Breach: A security incident where sensitive, protected, or confidential CISD data is accessed without authorization.
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP): The rules all employees must follow when using district devices and network resources.
Confidential Data: Information that must be kept secret, especially student records (FERPA) and employee private data.
VPN (Virtual Private Network): A secure, encrypted connection used when accessing the district network remotely.
Social Engineering: The act of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. Instead of hacking a system's technology, cyber attackers use psychological tricks to exploit a person's natural tendency to be helpful, trusting, or curious.
